Forged Brands Confiscated

The Almuñécar Policía Local have confiscated over 3,000 Mickey-Mouse-branding clothing items on sale on some of the stalls during the Friday markets.

The Almuñécar Policía Local have confiscated over 3,000 Mickey-Mouse-branded clothing items on sale on a  stalls during the Friday market.

OK, it’s best that I explain that when I use “Mickey Mouse” I don’t mean with Mickey and Minnie designs but rather that they are fake brand items. Native English speakers in the UK would say that somebody was wearing a Mickey Mouse Watch, meaning that it was a forgery and not that Mickey’s arms were marking the hour.

Officers noticed that one of the stalls was selling clothing with the appearance of belonging to a famous brand, so they asked the stall-holder for his trading licence. He or she didn’t have one.

Upon inspecting the items of clothing closely, they realised that they were brand forgeries and immediately confiscated the lot.

The stall-holder is being charged with an offence against intellectual and industrial property: “Given the amount of items found and confiscated, it took two shifts to catalogue each item, numbering over 3,000.”

“Offences against intellectual and industrial property, or, if you prefer, the illegal sale of false-branded clothing, affect everybody from the patent copyright owner for the brand right down to the shop that sells bona-fide brand items,” points out the Policía Local, adding that the main benefactors are the mafia behind the fake products.

Editorial comment: the more cynical amongst our readers will be wondering how many of these confiscated items disappear before being registered…
