Weekends on the A-44 between the coast and the city of Granada are always a nightmare in the summer, which is why on Sundays the southbound lanes will lend one to the returning traffic from the beach.
It will start this Sunday, the 1st of June, with the extra-lane arrangement laying between kilometre point 158 and 168 giving northbound traffic three lanes most of the way to Otura.

To give you an Idea where those kilometre points are, Exit 157 is the Nigüelas/Dúrcal junction and Exit 167 is the Acebuches/Ízbor unction. There will be CCTV cameras monitoring this section.
Just to be clear, this is to cope with the traffic pouring off the coast and heading inland so it will be in force from 17.00h to 22.00h on Sundays. These times are not written in stone and can be altered.
This is one of the traffic regulation measures adopted with the aim of reducing the impact on mobility, when a high volume of vehicles is concentrated in a specific time slot.
Something to be remembered is that these kinds of temporary modifications to traffic lanes come with special conditions:
- The extra lane is limited to cars and motorcycles and is prohibited for all other vehicles, including passenger cars with trailers.
- Lights are obligatory (dipped) regardless of remaining daylight.
- Driving must be limited to a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour and a minimum speed of 60 KPH, or lower if so established or specifically sign posted.
- Drivers must not cross onto lanes designated for normal traffic, not even for overtaking.
