Officers Save Driver’s Life

Readers might remember the article we ran back in February about a driver who hit a wall close to Madera Román woodyard in Motril on the old Almería road (kilometro zero).

Well, it has since come to light that the 65-year-old driver had suffered a heart attack, causing him to loose control of the small van.

It was thanks to a couple of officers belonging to the Polía Local who had sufficient training to apply CPR and other First-Aid training to keep him alive so that he could be transferred to hospital where he eventually recovered.

This incident took place around 09.10h on the 26th of February. When the police arrived they examined the driver and saw that he wasn’t responding to any stimulus, so they began CPR and kept it up until the ambulance arrived. The ambulance took him to a heliport for ongoing transfer by a helicopter ambulance to Granada’s main hospital, Hospital San Cecilio.

It was not only thanks to the fast CPR applied to the victim that saved his life, but it also saved him from suffering brain damage and thus allowing him now to return to a normal life.
