Caught Red-Handed

Probably the most apt title for this article as a man was caught with his hands and face covered in red paint after leaving graffiti on a church wall in Granada.

Officers belonging to the Policía Nacional arrested a 29-year-old man as the suspected culprit of vandalising a historic heritage site; namely the Iglesia de San Nicolás in the Albaicín quarter of the city.

The incident took place on Wednesday around midnight after the police were alerted by a local about an individual leaving graffiti on the church outer wall.

When officers arrived it was to find fresh, red paint left on the wall in writing form, expressing a political protest. Questioning passersby whether they had seen who had done it, they were directed towards an individual still in the church’s surrounding area; i.e., on the nearby Mirador de San Nicolás.

They immediately saw that the man (who has been arrested on previous occasions) with paint stains on his hands, arm and even his head. According to the police, he readily admitted to having used paint on the church but that he couldn’t remember where he had discarded the spray-paint can.
