PSOE Junta MP María Ángeles Prieto has warned of the "collapse" of the healthcare system and estimated that Santa Ana Hospital in Motril has 14,750 on waiting lists for surgery.
Standing outside the said hospital with local party leader, Francisco Sánchez Cantalejo, she said, “Patients are piling up month after month,” adding, “1,986 people are awaiting surgery and 12,764 are waiting for an initial consultation with a specialist.
She considers that since Junta Prime Minister, Juanma Moreno took office, waiting times for outpatient consultations have increased by 93.5%, and the number of patients waiting outside the guaranteed timeframe has increased by 331%.”
Delivering more figures she criticised that Santa Ana’s waiting list for surgery has increased 37%, with 538 more patients in six months, making it the hospital in the province with the largest increase in this waiting list.” The average waiting time for attention has increased by 29 days in those six months so that it stands at 202 days on the waiting list.
All this, she considers, constitutes a scandalous situation, as Hospital Santa Ana, claims has the worst average-waiting situation in this respect not only in the province and Andalucia in general, but also in the whole of Spain.
She concluded with, “During the six years of Junta PM Moreno’s administration, the waiting time for an outpatient consultation at the Santa Ana Hospital in Motril has gone from an average of 68 days to two 202 days,” adding that it is “absolutely shameful” where cases such as the rehabilitation consultation with a 612-day wait.”
