There was a house fire in Motril on the 23rd that claimed the life of a man in his mid 70s and left his wife hospitalised with burn injuries.

The fire took place in a 2-storey house on Calle Jacinto Guerrero and spread rapidly leaving the elderly couple trapped inside, one of whom on the inside patio.

The emergency coordination centre, 112, received an alert at 20.15h and  immediately despatched the Motril fire service to the scene, together with an ambulance and police officers.

By the time that the emergency services arrived the 75-year-old man was already dead and his 71-year-old wife needed treatment at the Hospital Santa Ana. She was discharged the next day.

The preliminary results of the investigation into the cause of the fire consider it to have been an accident.
