Ignored Safety Precautions?

Yes, our news articles do appear to be all "doom & gloom" but these latest road accidents involving families stand out from the daily litany of road accidents in Spain

Sunday was a day of road accidents, it appears, because three members of a family lost their lives in Astudio (Palencia).

Amongst them were Amaia, a 7-month old baby and Daniel, a 5-year-old boy, the former was not travelling in a baby seat. The 38-year-old mother, Tamara Dotres Pérez, also died in the accident.

The 40-year-old father, who was driving the Mitsubishi Grandis, and the other son, aged 13, who was sitting in the front, survived the impact although both were very seriously injured and had to be rushed to the Hospital de Burgos in a mobile-ICU ambulance .

According to the Guardia Civil, both survivors were wearing their seatbelts. It appears (not confirmed) that the mother had the baby in her arms when the accident occurred.

Finally, Daniel, was in the rear row of this large car and was in a child’s seat and had a belt on but the chair is being investigated by the police to see if it was suitable; i.e., homologated for use in Spain. It was originally thought that Daniel had been in the same row of passenger seats as his mother baby sister.

Hi, Charlotte! Well the reason is because many readers just zero in on very local news but we try to broaden the scope so that readers can catch up on what is happening around the country, as well, if the item of news is interesting. Hell, the magazine used to have a “world section” if the item was quirky.

As for our name, the Gazette was originally call the Coastal Gazette but swapped to Seaside Gazette in January 2003. Presently, the hard copy bears: The Seaside, Costa Tropical & Lecrin Valley Gazette.

Personnaly, my knob would drop off it we could only report on what flowers have been added to municipal gardens on the Costa Tropical and what the Mayor had for breakfast. – Martin 😉

    Well, emasculated Martin.
May I add to the doom and gloom.
Someone once said. Seat belts save lives.
So many do not bother. Mostly trusting in some good or another. The babe in mother’s arms. That’s real bad luck.
Been there in France. Wife calming baby down in front seat. Her with belt on. We do make errors at times.

Just a suggestion, because it doesn’t bother me much… but maybe you could just limit them to our area, or at least closer to our area, not 800-1000 km away???
One could argue it’s the SEASIDE Gazette, and Castilla y León isn’t even at any sea at all??? ????????????
