There was a motorbike accident on the A-348 Alpujarra road where it passes through the municipality of Órgiva after two bikes collided.

The incident took place a little before 112 received an alert at 12.30h yesterday near kilometre point 28 on the eastbound lane.

The caller identified two badly hurt people (riders) one of whom was unconscious and not breathing and undergoing CPR.

The emergency centre despatched an ambuance and the Guardia Civil, as well as a road-maintenance crew to clear the road of wreckage.

Furthermore an air-ambulance helicopter was also despatched along with a further ambulance, deploying thus two medical teams.

One of the victims was declared dead at the scene and the other is seriously injured and in the ICU.
