The Mayor of Motril and a gaggle of her councillors were out earlier in the week, visiting the work going on to improve parking on Playa Granada.
The work is being financed through the Proyecto de Mejora de Diversos Entornos Rústicos y Urbanos de Motril 2024 (PFEA)

Mayor Camacho explained that the main aim behind these works in the beach area is “to create a green space; a Parque Litoral.” The new, or better said, improved, parking is between Restaurante Los Moriscos and Bonobo Beach.
There will be no increase in parking spaces and access will be a two-way lane, with loading/unoading areas and parking areas for motorbikes
Finally, it will be tarmacked – at present it is earth and gravel and heavily potholed – whilst the parking areas will have a concrete surface.
She assured that no trees would disappear and that good street lighting would be put in place, along with street furniture.

Reader’s comment: “I bang on about this every so often. The top end of the car park had an adjacent parking area for about 16 cars and two large rubbish bins. Someone somewhere paid for that area to become a surfboard, kayak establishment. With I believe a bar cafe. Losing the spaces and I guess affecting poor old Bonobo.
Like the shed toilets by Bonobo. I do wonder where their kitchen and toilet waste goes. Do not swallow the sea water. So someone somewhere has friends with influence.
Ditto the so called summer residence for a royal family. I had thought it was for the Spanish Royals. Seems it was further North. Belgium. ? Such a waste. Lying empty. Would make a nice day center for parents or elderly.” – Patrick Barry Storey
