Casa Grande & La Ermita

The original deal was that the Town Hall; i.e., the municipality, would gain ownership of Casa Grande, up in the old town and a house on Calle Brocal in exchange for publicly owned, building land down in the beach area, which the parish could use to build upon.

The snag is that there is a family living in the house on Calle Brocal, and they weren’t going anywhere, so this ground the deal to a halt. However, it was suggested that the Town Hall swapped the Calle Brocal house for the chapel building in Lobres.

Now, if we are not mistaken, the Casa Grande is the large house in the old, Town Hall square in the old town that was used as accommodation for the parish priest.

As for Calle Brocal, it’s just above the old Market Square, which is now a car park. Lobres chapel is at the top of the village on Calle Nueva.

This adjustment to the swap was put forward by the PP opposition party, although it can’t be incorporated, at this stage, within the request for funding from the EU to renovate Casa Grande. Any delay would mean that they would miss the boat for EU cash.

Mayor Javier Ortega did say, however, that this wouldn’t stop the discussion with the parish continuing.

Going back to the Lobres Chapel, La Ermita de San Antonio, the PP Spokesman that it had been donated to the village by an ex-mayor, and that, if it is included in the exchange, then it could be used for cultural activities.
