The Agricultural & Fishing Ministry of the Junta de Andalucía has prohibited the transfer of infected branches from fruit trees being moved out of the municipality for disposal.
The Ministry insists that the branches from the avocado trees, etc, should be destroyed (burned) where they were cut down; i.e., in the plantations in Motril.

The propagation of the pests that are behind the problem is caused, in part, by the transfer of the cuttings to the disposal points; there is one actually in Motril which you can see from the A-7 above town.
The new regulations that came into affect yesterday (published in the Boletín Oficial de la Junta de Andalucía BOJA) establishes: “if the plague spreads to other Andalusian municipalities, the same restrictions will automatically be imposed there” without the necessity of further legislation.
So far, they have detected four infected plantations in Motril and experts are waiting for the results back from sample from two other plantations.
The have also placed 30 tree traps over several municipalities on the coast but so far there have been no cases detected outside of Motril.
We did an article on this back in September last year.
