Almuñécar has registered over 80 litres of rainfall per square metre since the rains began last week, even more in the upper part of Valle Río Verde in Otívar and Jete (100L/sq/m).
The rain that Borrasca Jana has brought has been for the most part constant but not too heavy, all though there have been sudden downpours. This despacito-despacito rainfall has been extremely beneficial for the campo as it give the soil time to absorb the water.

This change in the amount on rain and it’s ‘delivery quality’ is a welcome change to the drought which has left the water table running on empty.
The Councillor for Agriculture and the Environment, Carlos Ferrón, provided the yearly rainfall figures year and so far this year:
2025: 310L per sq/m (up to the 10th of March)
2024: 378L per sq/m
2023: 270L per sq/m
2022: 233L per sq/m
Further up the valley in Otívar, for example, they have already reached 400L per sq/m, most of which will make its way down the valley, filling the water table.
