Turning A Blind Eye?

The PSOE Spokeswoman in Almuñécar, Rocío Palacios, warned Mayor Juan José Ruiz Joya, about the dumping of earth and stones next to the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural park.

She says that this goes on without any reaction from the Town Hall in the form of a fine and that furthermore the company that is doing it is Viales Progreso, which repeatedly gets public contracts from Almuñécar Town Hall.

She says that when she did bring this to the Mayor’s notice the response was that the governing party would immediately send an environmental inspector to the site along with the Policía Local.

“Following several hours without anything happening, we reminded the Mayor about the problem which continues to take place in the Calaiza area,” said Spokeswoman Palacios, adding that instead of stopping, the company appears to have increased the pace of the dumping lasting all through the night.

“The governing party, with vague excuses, has allowed the company to continue because they haven’t taken action, despite the alarm felt by those living in the area,” she claimed, adding, “This seems to us a behaviour of doubtful urbanistic legality.”

Editorial comment: hopefully we will receive a response from the Mayor’s officer to these accusations.
