The Vice-Chairman of the Provincial Council, Nicolás Navarro, accompanied Mayor Juan José Ruiz Joya, on a visit to the demolition work on the Turismo Tropical along San Cristóbal.
The demolition process which began last December is “advancing at an excellent pace,” according to the Mayor, who said that it should be completed by Semana Santa.
The Provincial Council is studying a request by the Town Hall to allow the cleared site to be used for parking during the Easter period.
Mayor Ruiz Joya said, “This project will not only improve the quality of life for our elderly, but will also create employment for our town and alleviate parking shortages.”
The Mayor and the Vice-Chairman had words of praise for each other’s administration ha ing collaborated efficiently (they both belong to the same party, the PP).
The soon-to-be-vacant plot will become a residence for the elderly called Sénior Tropical thanks to a budget of 850,000 euros for simply drawing up the project and another 352,000 euros for the demolition work. The actual construction work will run into millions.
Editorial comment: the original structure was for elderly tourists on state-subsidised holidays, but a long, drawn out squabble between the Town Hall and the Provincial Council led to it falling into disrepair and the eventual need for its demolition, as it would be cheaper than doing it back up.
