A man in his mid 20s died in the ICU at the Hospital Costa del Sol de Marbella after falling whilst being pursued by the police.

The incident took place in the Colegio Público Santa Teresa around 04.45h on Thursday the 23rd. The Policía Local had received an alert from a security firm which monitors burglar alarms in the said junior school.

When the officers arrived at the school, they saw that there was somebody moving around inside on the second floor with a torch.

The 25-year-old burglar, who was from Kazajistán, upon realising that the game was up and that the police were on the premises, attempted to climb down a lamppost, which gave way under his weight.

The officers found him sprawled on the ground and with a bag that had two student laptops in it. The officers called for an ambulance, which soon arrived and took him to the Hospital Costal del Sol with traumatic head injuries.

He was being treated in the ICU but by that same afternoon had succumbed to his injuries and died.
