Fatal Hiking Accident

A man lost his life yesterday in a fall whilst out hiking within the municipality of Álora in Málaga.

The accident took place along the walking route, El Chorro around 11.00h yesterday morning. The victim, who was in the company of others, fell and as a result of the impact was left unconscious.

One of his companions alerted the Emergency Coordination Centre, 112, who despatched the Grupo de Rescate e Intervención en Montaña de la Guardia Civil (GREIM) as well as an air-ambulance helicopter which landed on the Álora heliport.

The rescue team retrieved the victim and rushed him to the waiting helicopter. However, medical sources confirmed that the man was dead, although it is not known whether he was pronounced dead by the paramedics at the heliport or during the flight, but he was definitely dead on arrival at the hospital.

No details have been made public as to the victim’s age, name nor nationality.
