According to the Mayor of Motril, the new ringroad that will link the Tanatorio to the Plaza de Toros is going great guns.
The inauguration of the commencement of this public works was enacted with the laying of the first stone just a month ago and the target date for it to be completed is June next year.
Of course, it’s not just about running a bulldozer over the land and slapping down a touch of tarmac because there are electricity lines, telephone lines and irrigation ditches to be rerouted. There’s an embankment invoved, too, which has to be completed before the road surface can be dealt with.
This won’t be just a single lane in either direction but two in each direction. Then there’s the pedestrian paths and a bicycle lane.
The budget for the task is almost 2-million euros, which is mostly funded by the Provincial Council (1.4m euros). The Town Hall coffers will provide 64,689 euros and the Mancomunidad de la Costa Tropical will sling in a further 168,328 euros.
According to data from the Provincial Council, this route will handle a daily-traffic load of about 30,000 vehicles, so this new road will relieve congestion and improve road safety significantly.
