Fishing Boat Roundabout

The new roundabout between the barrios of Santa Adela and El Varadero in Motril now sports a small fishing boat in the centre.

The 50-year-old boat was donated to the Town Hall by the López Cano family after being carefully restored by the Tarifa brothers. It stands as a tribute to the fishing-sector traditions on the Costa Tropical

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several local authorities, such as the Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro; the Chairman of the Port Authority, José López Fuentes; and the Councillor for Municipal Dependencies, Concepción Abarca.

Mayor Chamorro says that this project not only beautifies the area, but also strengthens the cultural link and seafaring identity of these urban communities that are next to the Port of Motril.

Editorial Comment: we had better hope that an over zealous municipal police officer does not slap a fine on it for parking on a roundabout.
