Cotobro Beach Erosion

Now that Motril is getting its breakwater, the Mayor of Almuñécar, Juanjo Ruiz Joya, whilst expressing his satisfaction over the Central Government's efforts, criticises them over Playa Cotobro.

He considers that Madrid suffers from continuous forgetfulness concerning Almuñécar’s beaches, especially Cotobro where the sand (for want of a better word) is repeatedly swept away.

Mayor Ruiz Joya says that there is an “urgent necessity” to find a definitive solution for Almuñécar’s beaches.

“Whilst it is encouraging to see Motril advance with this important infrastructure, it still result incomprehensible that Almuñécar continues to wait,” he declared. He says that they have been waiting for years on the Costa Tropical but without result. He therefore insists that Almuñécar’s demands be heard.

He pointed up that the municipal coffers had to put right the damaged breakwater next to Aquatropic when it is not a municipal responsibility to do so: “We can’t continue throwing money away on temporary fixes,” he said.
