Playa La Cagaílla

Although a translation of the name of this beach is not too enticing, work has commenced to improve it, according to the a Central Government, Provincial Delegate, José Montilla.

Work began around mid September with heavy machinery on Playa La Cagaílla, which is on the eastern side of the Guadalfeo river mouth.

Some people believe that the river is the municipal border between Salobreña and Motril, whereas the former virtually extends right up to what used to be Hotel Robinson on Playa Granada.

Fortunately, or unfortunately if you prefer unspoilt beaches, they are going to provide normal beach furniture and installations. This was inevitable as the area just behind it is the TH2, in other words, designated for hotels and housing.

Provincial Delegate Montilla explained that work had not started before because the area had not been under their remit, but this has now been rectified. He also pointed out that although the beach is now ‘theirs,’ the question of installing showers and walkways does not correspond to them.

“The responsibility for installing showers, walkways and other beach utilities belongs to the Town Hall and the Junta de Andalucía,” he explained, adding, “the State’s responsibility is restricted to making sure that the beach (i.e., the sand) itself if prepared and in condition for public use.”
