Motril Town Hall announced that four new hotels would start to go up during 2025 and 2026. Furthermore, Hotel Impressive will be extended.
These new additions will give Motril 826 extra hotel beds, which the Mayor believes will consolidate the town as quality tourism destination. The Town Hall says that it is a 50% increase in hotel beds; i.e., from 1,712 beds to 2,570 beds within four or five years.
Vice-Mayor who heads the Promoción Turística, Mari Ángeles Escámez Rodríguez qualifies this as a “special chapter” within the development of Motril: “What we intend to do is put our town on the map as a tourist destination,” she said.
The first hotel project is within town covering 4,000 sq/m next to the Parque de los Pueblos de América, Work will commence in 2025. It will have 150 rooms.
The others will be in the Playa-Granada area. One will be on Avenida Federico Mayor Zaragoza with 160 rooms on a 12,500-sq/m plot and another will be on Avenida Rector José Vidasoria. As they are next to the golf course and the beach, it should attract both those that want to enjoy the beach as well as golfers.
However, the “jewel in the crown,” according to the Vice-Mayor will be a luxury, in the rural hotel Minarierra area, which has a budget of seven-million euros. Work should start in 2025.
As mentioned above, Hotel Impressive will be extended from its present 396 rooms to 415 – work will commence in January 2025.
Finally, Hostal Tropical, which closed its doors some years ago, will be renovated and turned into a boutique hotel with 21 rooms, right in the centre of town.
