Three workers belonging to a hydro-electric company died yesterday morning when their helicopter crashed in the Monte Picayo area, Valencia.
The incident took place around 10.00h Sunday morning while the helicopter was flying over a rural area, checking on the HT power lines. Unfortunately, the helicopter hit one of the lines with its rotors, bringing the aircraft crashing down.
The first to arrive were officers from the Policía Local belonging to the town of Puçol, followed by the fire service.
When the fire service arrived it was to find one victim inside the wreckage and two who had been thrown out in the impact. However, the paramedics at the scene could only certify their deaths as they had died in the crash.
The emergency services were hindered by the an HT line that the crash had brought down, lying across the wreckage of the helicopter and that the full fuel tanks had ruptured, spilling their contents.
This is the second helicopter accident in the space of two months in Valencia and in similar circumstances. Last August a helicopter crashed after colliding with power lines because it had carried out evasive manoeurvres to avoid spraying pesticides onto people below.
