The Spanish Navy's patrol vessel, Tarifa (P-64) will make a stop over in Motril Port from the 20th to the 22nd of this month.
This warship left its base in Cartegena on the 1st of September on a support-roll deployment for Spanish fishing vessels, as well as patrolling the Balearic, Levante and Mar de Alborán fishing grounds.
During its stay in the port, members of the public will have the opportunity to visit the Tarifa on Friday the 20th between 15.00h and 19.00h and then Saturday the 21st from 09.30h to 13.00h and 15.00h to 19.00h and finally Sunday the 22nd from 09.30h to 13.00h
The Tarifa was laid down in the Freire Shipyards in Vigo and launched on November 11th , 2003. It is part of the Maritime Action Force (FAM) of the Spanish Navy.
This vessel is designed to carry out missions related to maritime security, with the aim of protecting the maritime interests of Spain. Its main tasks include surveillance and inspection in national and international fishing grounds, such as Terranova, Iceland and the Mediterranean, including the Mar de Alborán.
The Tarifa is equipped with advanced control & assistance systems at sea, which allow it to carry out search & rescue operations and act in the case of pollution (contaminant spillage).
