The Guardia Civil announced yesterday that they had located a second body in Escorca, in Mallorca (Balearic Islands) where a British couple had gone missing.
The search had begun again yesterday morning at first light after having found the shorts of the missing man the previous day.
The body was located at 10.45h in a rock pool, 800 metres from the mouth of the river, Torrent de Pareis. Pending confirmation from the Instituto de Medicina Legal where an autopsy will be carried out, the body appears to belong to the missing 32-year-old British tourist.
Early this week, on Wednesday, a mountain-rescue team had located the body of a missing British excursionist, a woman aged 26, who was the partner of the man found Friday morning.
The couple were caught out by flood water after heavy rainfall. The murkiness of the storm water made the task of locating the bodies more difficult as it seriously limited visibility in rock pools and along the river itself.
Editorial comment: this is the worst time of year, as summer draws to a close, for flash floods. So many people are caught on dry riverbeds and ramblas by a wall of water coming down them. It doesn’t have to be raining where you are; it could be raining heavily in the mountains and the water, pushing lots of debris, suddenly appears further down where the skies are still blue.
