A socialist councillor at the Nerja Town Hall was found to be over the limit for alcohol consumption when he was stopped on his motorbike by the Policía Local.
Councillor Óscar Jiménez, aged 44, who runs a car rental company in Nerja, says that he is pending a fast-tracked trial after being caught on the 20th of this month.
He denies, however, that he insulted or threatened the municipal police officers when he was pulled over. He also expressed his surprise that details of the incident were leaked to the press.
“Who could have sent a police report to the press,” he asked.
Councillor Jiménez used to be the civilian head of the Policia Local himself between May 2016 and June 2019 when the Town Council was run by a coalition of the PSOE, IU and EVA-Podemos.
His local party branch said that they would wait and see what comes out of the trial.
