Interpol were closing in on an Argentinian fugitive and needed a disguise to get close to him, so they borrowed a fire truck and fire-personnel uniforms.
The Organización Internacional de Policía Criminal (Interpol) had tracked this man down, wanted for sexually abusing his step-daughter, to Puertollano in the province of Ciudad Real in Castilla-La Mancha.
The 63-year-old fugitive, who is a well known musician and journalist in musical magazines (amongst them, Rolling Stone), fled the country in 2017, after the Argentinian High Court ratified a prison sentence imposed by a lower court. Upon reaching 17, the step daughter had denounced him, leading to his arrest and trial.
The police, who had been tracking his present-day girlfriend, located him after she visited Puertollano; a town of some 50,000 inhabitants.
The disguised officers entered an establishment where the fugitive was shopping to order an evacuation over a supposed fire in the building – they nabbed him as he filed out.
He is presently being held in the provincial prison in Herrera de La Mancha, awaiting his extradiction.
