Workers at the rubbish-treatment plant in Alhendín found the body of a baby whilst sorting through the refuse.
The discovery was made around noon yesterday. Although an ambulance was rushed to the scene, the baby was past help.
Once permission was given to remove the body, the police carried out an inspection of the scene in search of clues.
This rubbish-sorting plant handles the waste of 174 municipalities in the province of Granada, including the city of Granada
This is not the first time that there has been a gruesome find in the plant, as in 2018 workers found the body of a baby in a rubbish bag, with the umbilical cord still attached to its tiny body.
On that occasion, the forensic police were able to trace the DNA to the mother, arresting both her and the grandfather of the child. In 2020 she faced the judge and was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment. Both the father and the grandfather received 3-year sentences.
