Officers from the Málaga Policía Local arrested a man in his 50s, suspected of deliberately starting several fires.

The police and fire service had received an alert around 14.55h on the 5th of this month about a fire that had just broken out near Calle Massenet in the hillside area next to the Mirador de Los Remedios (Parque Periurbano La Virreina.)

Both emergency services were soon at the scene and the fire service proceeded to put the fire out, which had extended towards the La Virreina wooded hillside area.

Several bystanders pointed out an individual who they thought had started it, who was still loitering around the area.

Upon searching him, they found two cigarette lighters on him, tissue paper and medical gause. Consequently, he was taken into custody and charged with arson for this fire and several other similar fires that had been started in the last few days.
