Fugitive Captured in Nerja

The Guardia Civil arrested a fugitive from Scotland who is wanted in connection with sexual-assault cases.

The 55-year-old Scotsman had blended in within the population of Nerja under a false identity through sports activities. In fact, he was arrested whilst he was doing callisthenics exercises on a beach, sports area.

He had never appeared before a judge for these sexual assault crimes because he disappeared in 2022 just before it could come to trial, abandoning his car near a lake/loch, perhaps hoping that the authorities would think that he had committed suicide by drowning himself there.

The police operation in Spain began at the behest of the British NCA (National Crime Agency). The British police had received an anonymous tip off to say the fugitive could be living in Nerja, so they contacted the Spanish, Unidad Central Operativa (UCO) belonging to the Guardia Civil.

The Guardia Civil also received the information that the suspect leads a sports-orientated lifestyle, which narrowed it down for them.

The suspect allegedly sexually assaulted two women whom he had met via an online dating site.
