Almuñécar Town Council has approved a motion to reduce the tax of building licences (ICIO) by 95% on VPOs.
The motion was put forward by the governing party, the PP and approved with the support of the PSOE and CA, whereas Almuñécar Unida para la Gente abstained.

Now, before you light candles in thanks to your household gods, believing that this will benefit your plans to build a nice chalet… put the matches away, because VPOs are government subsidised housing (council houses, more or less, if you are a Brit).
The Councillor for Hacienda explained that, “The object is to attract building developers for dwellings of this kind, thus increase the housing offer so that young people and other locals have a greater chance of finding decent and affordable housing.”
Another point approved in the Plenary meeting was another 95% reduction but this time on the Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles (IBI) where “activities of social interest are concerned, such as VPO housing, and the rescue and adoption of pets, and finally, personal assistance in old-persons homes and day centres for the eldery.
