Taking A Closer Look

Javier Rupérez might be just a functionary in a small village Town Hall, but he has produced some stunning macro photograph of the insect world.

He has dedicated years to photography, not just macro shots of our miniature companions, but of panoramic scenes, as well, but it is the former that has fascinated him for the last ten years or so.

It takes hours to prepare one of the extreme-macro shots in his photography studio but it is a price well worth the end result, obviously. Just imagine the patience behind capturing a photo of this jumping spider before it ‘hops it.’

We pass these insects by without a glance (unless one ends up in your beer or cup of tea) but when you examine the stunning clarity and detail of one of his photos, you will never consider them in the same light again.

Javier is not just some unknown entity in the depths of the province of Málaga, but has been recognised for the fifth year running as the best in the world when it comes to extreme-macro photograph, in an international photographic competition, competing against 30,300 other photographers from 162 different countries.

For more information we thoroughly recommend reading E. Cabeza’s article in the Sur, to whom we owe the debt of our own article as a source.
