Two Small Girls Rescued

A middle aged woman saved two children from drowning on a Torrenueva beach on Sunday.

The incident occurred around one in the afternoon whilst the Corpus-Christi procession was taking place. Proteccion Civil received a call out to say that two girls, aged four and eight were having trouble getting out of the water because of the surf in front of Restaurante Cucas.

By the time that the emergency services arrived, the two girls were already out of the water, thanks to a 40-year-old woman who had gone in to rescue them, but had also managed to swallow seawater whilst doing so.

An ambulance took the two girls and their rescuer to Hospital Santa Ana in Motril where all three were treated for the effects of their ordeal.
