Nah, it's a sailing ship and whilst it looks like it is up in the night's sky, it's really out to sea below the horizon, which you can't distinguish at night..
But let’s start at the beginning! Somebody took a photo of a strange light formation in the sky as you look out towards North Africa.
Its form was triangular and so odd was it that the person sent it into a TV programme that deals with all kinds of paranormal mysteries from UFOs in our skies to supposed alien gods who visited the Earth at the dawn of civilisation on the planet and gave it a helpful nudge in the right direction.
Said programme, Cuarto Milenio, eagerly showed the photo and asked what it could have been. Programme presenter, Iker Jiménez, discussed this with guests on the programme, and with the help of ongoing social media messaging on the subject, the mystery was solved; it was a sailing ship.
The full-rigged, tall ship, was Star Flyer, belonging to the luxury shipping line Star Clippers which had stopped in at Motril Port. These beautiful, sailing ships light up all the rigging on their masts at night, both for the display, as well as for safety reasons (it’s safer to look like a UFO than have a bloody-great container ship bump into you) so from that distance and angle, the colourfully illuminated, mast rigging appeared as a triangle.
So, Ladies and Gentlemen, we are set for more ‘UFO’ visits, as such luxury sailing ships as Sea Cloud I, Sea Dream II, Marella Voyager, Ocean Odyssey, Seven Seas Voyager, World Navigator, Seabourn Ovation, Seadream I and MS Nautica will be sailing along our coast, most of which will dock at Motril Port.
