Éxodo Autor Crianza 2020

We were in Murcia again, this month in Jumilla, visiting Bodegas Delampa

FTR Wine Exodo AutorBodegas DeLampa, D.O Jumilla 100 % Monastrell

It’s a family bodega founded by Julián Santos Martínez in 1921, one person’s passion, dream, and hard work, that a 100 years later becomes  a family legacy , a success story, and a great gift to us all.

Jumilla’s landscape reflects the aridity of the region, with dry and rocky terrain, with the landscape dotted with neat rows of grapevines. Besides vineyards, there are also find olive groves and almond orchards.

The Sierra de la Pila, a mountain range, adds a rugged and scenic element to the landscape, and influences the weather. As in Yecla, Monastrell  is king here, a versatile Monastrell grape, well-adapted to the arid climate.

The grapes that make Éxodo Autor  come from 50-yea-old vines. Can one tell the difference? Difficult to tell.  In the bodega, we were presented with three wines from 20, 50 and 100-year vines, and yes, side by side the difference there is a huge one, but it is hard to tell if it is because of the age of the vines, and therefore the quality of the grapes, or that older vines are spared to make a premium style and thus better wines.

We chose to present Éxodo Autor  as it mid range in terms of price, and a very good value for money. The is also the standard Éxodo,  Éxodo Roble,  Éxodo Lagrima, and the exceptional limited edition, Edicion Centenario. made from pre-Phylloxera 100-year-old vines.

Éxodo Autor is cherry-red of medium-high intensity with ruby hues on the rim.

The nose is dominated by barrel aromas imparting notes of fine vanilla-infused wood, toasted spices, and an abundance of black and red fruits. Cocoa and liquorice complement the sweet and fruity undertones, creating a complex and delicate bouquet.

On the palate, it is a highly smooth polished wine—balanced, rounded, and effortlessly drinkable, with very soft tannins. Persistent and well-balanced, the wine reveals hints of toasty and spicy notes on the retro-nasal passage. A delicious experience.

Open the bottle an hour or so before consuming, served it at 16-18ºC with red meats, grilled vegetables, stews, and aged cheeses.

90-92 Bruja points. EUR 9.00-9.50 from https://loschilines.com/ or directly from the bodega https://mrdelampa.com/
