Yes, the French Air Force will be sending their Mustang X-Ray (Swiss-made, Pilatus-PC21) trainers to the Motril Air Show this coming June!
The Festival Internacional Aéreo de Motril will be held on the 9th of June, so there’s still no need to panic but it is certainly not an event to miss, that’s for sure!
So far, the organisers have announced the participation of the wing-walker who will be tap dancing on the top wing of a biplane and yesterday, they announced that the French will be sending this snazzy trainer used at their pilots school for the Armée de l’air et de l’espace (French Air and Space Force) explained the Chairman of the festival, José Miguel Pérez Juárez.
In January 2017, Pilatus received a contract for 17 PC-21s from the French Department of Defence as a new training aircraft. On 31 August 2018, France’s defence procurement agency Direction générale de l’armement announced the arrival of the first two PC-21s. Thus the French began to replace their venerable Alphajets trainer aircraft and by March 2023 the changeover was complete.
As for the Mustang X-Ray, it is a tactical demonstration team belonging to the French Air and Space Force. The team consists of two Pilatus PC-21 advanced, single-engine, turboprop trainers from BA 709 Cognac Chateaubernard and is made up of three instructor pilots (two demo pilots and one coach). The team was created in 2021
