A man died in Albacete after becoming trapped in a rain drain, attempting to retrieve his keys.

This happened on Calle Llanos Moreno, which is near the municipal fairground and is actually in the middle of public works.

The 60-year-old man accidentally dropped his keys down the drain — how many of us has dreaded doing that with the car keys? So, he lifted off the grating and… put his head and shoulders into it. However the grating, which he had propped up, fell onto of him, effectively trapping him and causing him to asphyxiate.

As this all took place in the early hours of the morning, there was nobody about so nobody came to his rescue. It wasn’t until daylight when the first pedestrians were about that his now dead body was found.

Somebody called 112 but the ambulance crew could do nothing for him other than take him to hospital for examination and an autopsy.

When the police had first found him, they thought that he was the victim of violence, until they discovered his keys at the bottom of the drain.
