Locals alerted the Padul Town Hall to a small fire in the area of the municipality known as the Vega Chica around four in the afternoon on the 19th of March.

Consequently, one of the councillors, Sr.Ramírez, accompanied by a municipal worker set off and found a smouldering log and mountain brush near the Acequia de Los Quinientos.

Soon after the Guardia Civil and the fire service turned up with the latter putting the fire out. Although it was a pretty small fire, it did catch light to netting on a fence surrounding a cortijo.

It was all over by seven that evening and the councillor was finally able to find a phone box to change back into his councillor clothes from his cape and red underpants.
