The Mayoress of Benalúa de las Villas was found guilty of physically attacking and insulting one of the residents of her village in July 2022.
Mayoress María Angustias Cámara (PP) will have to pay a fine of 1,380 euros and compensation to the victim for thumping her on the arm and calling her a “disgusting lump of shit.”
Well, that’s certainly not a vote earner – just saying!
The incident took place on the 6th of July, 2022 when Maria Angustia had arranged to meet the woman outside normal town-hall hours within the building to show her the libro de actas (minutes book) from a previous Plenary Meeting of the Town Council. This was in regard to an agreement over private property to “sort out an urban-planning problem.”
As soon as they met up, the Mayoress went into a Tourette overdrive and threatened to put the other woman in jail if a lamppost was moved… the explanation gets a bit murky here but let’s just say a question of boundaries was the source of discord.
The other woman asked for a copy of the minutes book, which probably wasn’t wise because another broadside of insults whistled over. The other woman judged this a good moment to make herself scarce and left the building but not before receiving a blow to her arm as she past by the nuclear-activated Mayoress.
At this point the victim turned around and an angry argument boiled over to the point that other people present had to physically separate them. The whole thing, by the way, was captured on the building’s security cameras.
In the trial Menacing Maria Angustias recognised that she had pushed the other woman as she was in her way. The judge wasn’t convinced and added 500 euros in compensation to the sentence.
