Otura held a Christmas celebration yesterday, which was a little bit special, as it was a Mother Christmas procession – the only one held in Spain!
The Town Hall, which organised this, did so to promote sexual equality, as well as getting the town’s womenfolk involved in these seasonal fiestas.
But this year was not the first year that they’ve had a Mother Christmas Parade because they have been doing it for the last eight years, apparently.
The idea is that everybody belonging to the Asociación de Mujeres El Futuro and the Club de Gimnasia Rítmica de Otura dressed up in Father Christmas togs or Santa Claus glad rags, if you prefer.
“This year there were over 200 Mother Christmases, who paraded through the streets of Otura, bringing Yuletide joy once more,” explained the Councillor for Fiestas, Ángel García Gamarra.
