Just over a year after a company bought the Santa Clara golf course in Otura, things appear to be moving.

The advance was that they had actually been able to take over the golf course following a judicial dispute with the previous leaseholders.
It was only after a court had decided in the new owners’ favour that the leaseholder had had to hand over the keys, etc.
This is excellent news as the installations had remained closed since November last year when the leaseholder had ceased operations owing to unmanageable running-cost-related debts, a loss of golf-club members and a lack of water.
If the golf course is reopened, it is not only good news for golf players, but also for the whole urbanización whose selling point was the existence of the golf course.
The golf course was acquired by the hotel group Ona based in Barcelona, although they point out that they are not the end owners as they (Ona Asset management) are acting as financial advisers in a future sale to an investment-fund, third party.
So, summing up, things are moving thanks to the court case reaching its conclusion but we’re still a few steps from the golf course reopening.
Another party involved is the Unidad Urbanística de Conservación de Santa Clara Golf, run by property owners on the urbanización who have been fighting to get the 18-hole, Santa Clara Golf back online, as well as sort out the problem that the urbanización itself has, fruit of the building-bubble puncturing in 2008.
The UUCSCF has pledged to work along side the new owners in order to get the golf course operating again. Furthermore, thanks to works carried out by this conservation entity, there is now an ample electricity supply for both the urbanización and the golf course. Not only that, they have been busy, installing solar-led lighting, repairing street surfaces, pedestrian paths and maintaining green areas.

Just what the rain doctor ordered. A very little water goes a long way. Or so they hope. Unless golf green /brown is the new in thing.
