Servicemen Save Elderly Man

It was the 27th of last month and there was a get-together at a restaurant in Dólar. Suddenly an elderly relative began to have problems.

GRA GDX Restaurante Venta DolarBy coincidence, a military convoy en route for the shooting range in the Viator army base was passing by on the A-92 when one of the vehicles experienced problems so the driver pulled off the autovía into this motorway service area in Dólar.

When the two soldiers walked in through the door it was to see an elderly man lying on the floor with frantic relatives and restaurant staff gathered around him.

Fortune would have it that Corporal Abderrahaman, who is an Army medic and Corporal Edén, belonging to the Artillery, had been in the troubled vehicle, which was a military ambulance.

They immediately went into action; Corporal Abderrahaman got to work on the 80-year-old victim, administering First Aid, whilst Corporal Edén contacted the civilian emergency services on his way to the military ambulance to collect a satchel containing medical equipment & medicines.

As the victim suffers from diabetes the medic first thought that he was suffering from hypoglycemia, and after checking his blood pressure and testing him for glucose levels, he found that the man had very low blood pressure.

The Army medic then set about giving him treatment to counter this, as well as making sure that he remained conscious.

Both soldiers stayed with the victim, while reassuring his family and relatives until the ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.
