Dúrcal Town Hall launched Objetivo Paraolimpiadas 2024, with which it hopes to help Héctor Esturillo achieve his dream of participating in the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris.
In order for Héctor, who is from Dúrcal, to compete in the Paralympics Games he needs to obtain good results in the international trials for the Copa del Mundo. He has been assured that if he keeps up the excellent results that he has been obtaining the door is open for participating in the said games.
To ‘keep’ up these good results he has to obtain good marks at the Copa del Mundo during its two trials in Europe, he explained.
To get ready for the Paralympics it is not only necessary to invest time, but also to have sufficient funds, which is why he approached his Town Tall. Consequently, the Municipal Sports Department has agreed to donate the takings from the upcoming San Silvestre this month on the 30th. They are also organising fund-raising paellas and hiking excursions, explained the Sports Councillor, Víctor Puentes.
Héctor, aged 34, is a fighter; a man who saw his life turned upside down on the 12th of June, 2021, after a motorbike accident. It was during his rehabilitation work at the Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos in Toledo that he discovered the handbike (a 3-wheeler which is hand-pedal powered).
Since then he won the latest edition of the Ponle Freno del Compromiso (Atresmedia) whilst still undergoing recovery therapy at the centre. He also came fourth in the Copa de España de ciclismo adaptado 2022. The following year he finished second in Valencia.
