When it looked inevitable that the present Mayor would be voted out in a vote of no confidence, help came from an unexpected quarter: Vox.
Vox refused to support the motion because the PP candidate to replace the Mayor, Rafael Bosch also had his hands dirty over the La Caleta VPOs, according to Vox.
It’s worth pointing out that in Spain, unlike some other countries, you can put forward a vote of no confidence with supplying an alternative candidate to take the ousted person’s place.
While Vox has never been the most popular kid in class, its reputation in Salobreña took a nose dive in the estimations of the other political parties eager to see the Mayor out of office, especially, Más Salobreña who put forward the motion.
So, Más Salobreña, which was part of the ruling coalition, shot its bolt and has had its place taken in the coalition by Convergencia Andaluza, concluding this round of musical chairs.
The new ruling coalition comprising the PSOE, IU, Cs and Convergencia Andaluza have been busy sharing out council departments with the Mayor’s party hanging onto the important posts of Urbanismo, Obras and Casco Antiguo.
Out in the cold, the PP are blaming Vox, with whom they rival for right-wing votes all over the country. Vox, on the other hand, pointed out that the PP candidate, Bosch and a Más Salobreña councillor are involved in a court case concerning the VPOs. However, their refusal to back the vote did not mean that they were not determined to “expel the left and remove a PSOE Mayor from the Spanish Prime Minister’s fold.
However the PP say that Bosch had offered to resign as candidate to keep Vox in on the motion, but to no avail, They went further to accusing the local Vox leader, Manuel Martín, of having a sizeable debt owed to the municipal coffers fruit of acquiring plots 151, 152 and 154 on the TH1 (the area where the hotels will go up) for the sum of 170,000 euros, plus interest, which has been outstanding for a decade.
Editorial comment: nobody can accuse politicians putting the interests of those who vote for them before their personal gain.
