The hunt for a missing man from Moclín gathered hope when his car was found, half way down a slope amongst trees.
The police had been alerted to the presence of the crashed car, lodged against pine trees some way down from the Tiena-Moclín road in a steep ravine.
A mountain-rescue was sent in with a Guardia Civil helicopter to reach the wrecked 4×4, assisted by the Granada fire service. The car was empty, so hope still existed.
However, all hopes were dashed when the body of the driver was found nearby, some 40 metres from the car.
The victim, a resident of Puerto Lope, had gone missing on Monday.
Editorial comment: anybody who has driven the Cabra road between the old gasolinera and the top just before Mesón Los Prados will have noticed the white car, half way down a barranco, that has been there since the late 70s.
We live in a province that has long stretches of mountainous road, running through sparsely populated areas, so if you do go off the road and down a barranco, you’re on a sticky wicket.
