It’s hardly surprising that with the increase in traffic, especially on the A-44, there have been accidents, one of which occurred on the 17th.
The road accident happened where the autovía passes level with Nigüelas and involved a lorry running into a car, resulting into two people being injured.
The accident, which occurred at 18.00 that Monday, resulted in the occupants of the family car having to be cut out of the wreckage. The victims, a 30-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, were taken to Hospital de Neurotraumatología
Whilst the fire personnel were busy doing this, the Guardia Civil traffic police decided to reroute traffic onto the N-323A in order to alleviate the three-kilometre tail back.
Tailbacks have not exactly been few and far between even when there is not a road accident involved with queues of traffic stretching back to Padul to the city of Granada owing to the mass exodus every weekend. Then of course, there’s the return exodus to reach home. Taking the old road to the coast is an attractive alternative.
