Until now, the Reserva Natural de la Charca de Suárez didn’t have any office space where visitors could obtain information about this small but very important wetland. Now this large, one-storey building will house administrative offices and an information office.
Charca Suárez covers thirteen hectares and is one of the most important wetlands on the coast of Granada. The groundwater that supplies it, emerges to the surface at different points, creating perennial lagoons. The reserve also receives irrigation water through different irrigation channels.
Amongst the birds that pass the winter within Charca Suárez are herons, flamingo and the spoonbill. Although the latter is frequent in Andalusia, it is rare in the province of Granada. Throughout the year, visitors will also be able to observe coots, white wagtails or grebes.
