Wind Damage to Harvest

The Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, said that he is deeply worried about the fate of fruit farmers both because of the drought and now the wind damage.

ALM Tropical Fruit Damaged by High WindsThe high winds over the weekend caused havoc with the crops, already decimated by water restrictions.

The Mayor considers the strong winds and high temperatures as more components of the climate change, the effects of which has caused the loss of avocados, mangoes and custard apples which, he says, are the backbone of our tropical-fruit industry.

For this reason, he will urge the Central Government at the next Plenary Meeting of the Town Council, to take “concrete measures immediately.”

He will recommend, for example, that the net return ratios for the 2023 IRPF (personal tax) for subtropical-fruit farmers on the Costa Tropical be reduced.

Juan José Ruiz Joya concluded by saying that in the coming days there will be a detailed study and evaluation of the damage caused.

Patrick: I think that the Mayor suggests that they should be put on a lower tax band. You and I are taxed at 21% (autónomos) if you’re working here.

  2. Patrick Barry Storey says:

Maybe it’s me but isn’t personal tax or business tax, paid on the results of profits made? Same as premium bonds in the UK and or investments are taxed here. So, small profits; Small taxes. Good years are great for the taxman.

Or does the Mayor think that like the water, the farming industry should have it all? He can recommend to the media but actual substance is a different matter. Plus, where is the shortfall in average taxes made up? Increase in other people’s taxes, foods. or fuel?
