The Sacromonte Fire Suspect

The Andalusian Autonomous Police have located a man suspected of being behind the first fire on Sacromonte above the city of Granada.

GRA Woodlands on Fire 400x250This fire occurred on the 5th of August in the Manflor area next to the Sacromonte Abby; a large, historical building. The fire covered an area of 0.53 hectares of wooded and shrub land before it was put out.

The officers took statements from the many eyewitnesses to determine the possible suspect; a man who lives in a cave and is known in the area to be somebody who vandalises street furniture, as well as throwing stones at tourists who visit the religious building on Sacromonte.

Had the city fire services, backed by Infoca, not acted quickly and effectively, then not only lives but also the abbey would have been in grave danger.
