Otura, which is the next town up from Padul on the A-44, was rocked by the news of the death of a 2-year-old girl in a swimming pool.
The accident occurred around 20.30h on Thursday in a pool belonging to a cortijo where the family were staying.
The parents were hurrying to get Yasmina to an A&E when they came across a fire engine in the centre of Otura, which had been called out to put out a small blaze in a field. The fire personnel immediately applied First Aid in the form of CPR, which they kept up for 30 minutes.
Whilst this was going on the Policía Local contacted 112 before rushing the girl to the A&E in Armilla. From there the child was rushed by ambulance to Hospital Materno Infantil in the city of Granada.
Despite all efforts, the girl died Friday morning. Consequently, the Mayor of Otura ordered the flags on the facade of the Town Hall to be flown at half mast.

It’s such a tragedy when this happens. I believe France has gone down the safety-first road of having rented casas pools, surrounded by fencing and a locked gate. Doesn’t look pretty, but saves lives.
