There was a fatal car accident on the A-7 where it passes through the municipality of Motril in the early hours of today.
The accident occurred near kilometre point 890 on the Almería-bound lanes around 02.30h, which was when the emergency, call centre (112) received an alert.
An ambulance with a paramedics onboard, together with the Guardia Civil, traffic police, as well as the Motril fire service were immediately at the scene. Also needed was a road-maintenance crew to remove the wreckage littering the lanes
The paramedics confirmed the death of one of the occupants after the car hit a central-reservation, crash barrier and when the 50-year-old driver got out of the car he was hit by another car and killed.
The female passenger, who was badly injured, had to be cut out of the wreck by fire personnel.
